On the morning of May 20, a delegation led by William John Mwegoha, President of Mzumbe University in Tanzania, and SOH TATCHA Charles, President of the Advanced School of Translators, Interpreters, and Communicators in Yaoundé, Cameroon, visited NJIT. Pu Lijie, Deputy Chairman of University Council warmly welcomed the delegation and held discussions on future collaborations.
Pu highlighted NJIT’s longstanding commitment to applied education, emphasizing partnerships with over 20 countries and noting this visit marks our first formal engagement with African universities. This collaboration aligns with the Belt and Road Initiative, expanding our global network and fostering closer China-Africa educational ties.
President Mwegoha expressed gratitude for the hospitality and discussed Mzumbe’s strengths in economics, law, and social sciences, expressing a desire for faculty training, joint talent cultivation, and student exchange opportunities. President Charles noted the growing need in Africa for local talent skilled in Chinese language and technical fields to support Chinese enterprises. He proposed collaborative programs in Chinese language and engineering to meet the demand for skilled professionals in Africa.
The visit culminated in the signing of an inter-university cooperation memorandum and an agreement to establish the China-Africa Joint Applied Talent Training Research Center.
